Sorry I have taken so long! I have actually been keeping fairly busy. I finish work in 1 hour and there is not much to do right now...so I decided to do this instead...
Anyway...before I forget-when I was in Phattalung (Kiat's hometown) I saw a bull fight! Well, actually they are not bulls..but they are similar...I forgot the name for them actually. It was fun...but also really sad to watch because both of the bulls got injured. But it is a popular event and all of the men from the village go there to watch and bet on what bull will win. If this one guy's bull wins, then he would get 10,000 baht (approximately $200). I didn't take any pictures...but it was interesting. I just didn't want to forget about that event...because it was pretty important. Oh-and I forgot to say that I practiced driving a motorbike (and it was on a road where there really are no cars...so no need to worry! It was actually pretty easy-though I wouldn't want to drive in Phuket or in a any big cities like Bangkok...)
Ok-so Kuala Lumpur. Well...I have done a lot so far, so I will try not to make this too long. I really like where I live. It is pretty convenient. I can take the bus to the LRT (light rail transit) and I can take a taxi pretty much anywhere for an okay price (as long as they use the meter). On Friday night me and Philip, the other intern from Germany who mostly works at the Childcare Center for WAO, spent the night at my co-worker, Joanna's, house. Her area is very famous for the Satay so we ate a lot of Satay that night...it was really good, but Philip and I both felt like we could explode since we ate so much...haha....
The next day we went to one of the domestic airports to a charity concert where we set up a booth to raise awareness on domestic abuse and WAO. It was pretty successful and the concerts were pretty good (all local bands and singers). There was also a magician there. He was REALLY good and could bend silverware, make dolls stand up on their own...and all this other crazy stuff. I wish I could do that....it would make good money on the side...haha. On Sunday I saw a movie with Philip and wandered around the mid-valley mall. I also did tons of laundry and caught up on some much needed sleep.
Today was...somewhat productive haha. We had a small staff meeting and Ivy (the executive director) wants me to not only write a shadow report for CEDAW (Convention on the elimination of Discrimination of all Women) but also write the newsletter. It will be a lot of work-but I think I can do it...I also met my supervisor, Annie, today. She is very nice. Overall-the staff is very friendly. OH-and this Indian woman who used to volunteer here invited me to an Indian wedding along with the other staff. I don't even know here and she invited me! I am excited...and they want to dress me up in a sari....haha...the wedding is next month and should be tons of fun!
Well-I better go. It is raining really hard (again) and of course I forgot my umbrella again...oops. Haha. When it isnt raining so hard, I just walk in the rain and the people here look at me like I am crazy. But I AM an oregonian...haha. Anyway, more later!
